Homemade Green Bean Casserole with French Fried Onions.

RECIPE
Green Bean Casserole with French Fried Onions

Ingredients

Casserole

1 can (284mL/10 oz.) Condensed Cheddar Cheese soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 tsp. black pepper
4 cups cooked cut green beans

Onion Topping

2 large onions, sliced into thin rings
1 cup milk or buttermilk
1 cup flour
Oil, for frying
Salt

Cooking Instructions


French Fried Onion Topping

1.
Soak the onions in the milk for 5 minutes.
2.
Heat the oil in a large skillet or deep fryer.
3.
Take a handful of onions and run them through the flour with a fork to coat.
4.
Fry in batches in the oil, stirring as needed to brown evenly.
5.
Drain on paper towels and season to taste, set aside.

Casserole

1. In a bowl, mix together the soup, milk and black pepper.
2. Gently mix in the beans and 2/3 cup of French fried onions. Pour into a deep baking dish.
3. Bake at 350F for 30 mins or until hot.
4. Top with remaining 2/3 cup onions. Bake 5 min. until onions are golden.

* Makes 6 servings;
** Store bought French fried onions can be used instead if desired;
*** Other types of condensed soup may be used (Mushroom, chicken or celery).

I always used cream of mushroom soup but I am going to try the cheddar cheese soup now.  I think it sounds better.  I've never had it with fresh fried onions either.  I am sure that is so much better than the store bought.
